What is a slice?
Slice is a term used on FeedSlice to represent two primary meanings of both the verb and noun forms of the word. The verb usage indicates one of the primary user actions on the site, which is cutting existing content (in the form of RSS feeds) into topical peices and creating new custom feeds. The noun form is meant to represent FeedSlice's usage of a smaller portion of a whole. A slice is a user submitted RSS feed that could be grouped into one of the larger topical groupings on the site. Slices are first placed into an appropriate oven for incubating/baking/approval. When the slice is done "cooking", FeedSlice automatically collects the news items from that slice aka RSS feed each time it is updated.
Example: Bill G. submits an advertising free RSS feed for inclusion on the FeedSlice that is about Apple Computer. He places it into the Technology Oven and thinks the slice could fit well topically with the Hardware, Software, and Design sub-categories of Technology on FeedSlice.
Food Metaphor #42: Think of being able to get a cake made of many different slices from your favorite bakeries (sources) around the world. Your frankencake is made up of great slices and creating it required lots of slicing from other cakes.
